Our background and mission is:
To showcase the holistic value of seemingly normal interaction with horses. To make horse partnership more affordable and accessible to everyone, especially those with no prior horse experience.
Most of our horses were at one time neglected. While the severity varied, most often their basic needs were not met. Several of our program horses were once highly valued horses whose owners fell on hard times or were unable to afford expensive veterinary care for fixable health issues.
Our program has been founded on reconditioning horses and pairing the horses with people who need a little bit of restoration and help themselves. The horses offer emotional and mental support for the lesson students and lessees as they learn and grow as equestrians.
Some people are first drawn to learn about the horses because they find them intriguing, and they soon reap the secondary benefits of finding balance physically, mentally, and emotionally through their interactions with the horses. Others have sought the horses out with the intention of having the horse be their unofficial therapist. Many of our participants already seek professional help from traditional mental health outlets, because they struggle with anxiety, depression, self-harm and a myriad of ailments.
Our role has been to teach them how to interact with their horse, how to help their horse work through stressful situations and how to enjoy their horses when they participate in fun activities. The lesson student or lessee almost always FEELS better after they spend time with their horse, regardless of what they work on. Sometimes they don’t work on anything; they are simply present with their horse. Many of our students state that they especially love being able to go on trail rides with their horses. Being able to enjoy nature adds another level of relaxation and facilitates the release of tension and negative energy.
Without our program, many of our clients would not have access to horses like they do with us. Most often, programs are very regimented, and there is not a lot of time allocated to bonding. We dedicate a lot of time to facilitating the opportunity to just be with the horses: groom them, braid their hair, hand graze them and have the horses do their yoga stretches.
